Cup Racing – AMC36
The client had previously purchased a painting of the America’s Cup, and when they saw the early ideas for a new piece, they wanted it to match their existing collection. In this painting, I aimed to highlight the dominance of Emirates Team NZ and showcase the different crewing positions. It may be a matter of debate whether ETNZ has already gone around the bottom mark or is still heading to the top mark.
That day – AMC35
I wanted to portray a special moment for the event. So, this is a combination of different angles for different references put into one painting. They say Peter was waving goodbye to the USA, but it was probably a look back. This moment summed up the 35th Americas Cup for me.
San Marco 2.4mts
This painting, located at the San Marcos restaurant, captures the essence of the action with close-up details.
San Marcolong 3.6 mts
A 3.6-meter-long painting depicts a combined sailing scene in San Marco, Italy, and Auckland Harbour. I wanted to show all types of yachts and the authentic atmosphere of Italy and New Zealand. The painting is hanging at the San Marco restaurant in Auckland.
John cook
This commission was challenging as my only reference was from photos I took off the pontoon in Westhaven Marina while tied up alongside. He wanted it shown powering into a 20-knot wind with a short chop along the Coromandel coast.
Scorpio
A commission for my father’s new boat that he had recently finished. I wanted to create his and my favourite scene of crossing back to Mana from the Malbourouh sounds in a good nore wester with all sails up and trucking along. The painting was created from photos when being built and imagination.
Cutty Sark
Cutty Sark was my favourite ship growing up. I dreamed of being aboard and even visited Greenwich, England. I’m proud to have captured the scale and nature of the ship in this commission.
NZL Narca 17
This commission was again based on what would represent this crew, so it was created from many different references to end up with what I did.
Sydney to Hobart 60 year history
I worked with members of the CYCA to create a large painting representing the 60th anniversary of the Sydney to Hobart Race. Each panel depicts a decade of the leading boats that competed during that time and continues into the next decade. This was a massive challenge incorporating all the different images into one large painting that measured 4.6 meters long.
Finished critical
A commission directly from the “critical moment” painting. But in a different proportion.
farr 40 racing
This Farr 40 owner in Sydney asked me to create a painting that showed the excitement and closeness of the Farr 40c class racing with his boat in the for.
Critical moment
Initially, I created this piece for myself, but many commissions followed. Sailors debated the actual moment and who was in the right.
18 footer
I created a series of works to capture the feeling of sailing on these amazing crafts in their early days. My goal was to showcase the thrill of sailing, the sensation of wind, and the taste of salt.
Catboat
Someone asked me to recreate a painting similar to the one they liked. I aimed to capture the oneness of the boat, wind, sun, and sea.
ready to work
I love these old boats, and after a client saw one that had just sold, they asked me to create another size that suited them. I wanted to covey a scene of mystique and calmness of this old craft.
Krakatoa
This was a commission for a proud boat owner who wanted a painting that combined different situations and racing moments.
Never give up
After seeing a previous painting in this series, the customer wanted one that incorporates two emotions from two different paintings.
Raglan views
This painting was similar to others I had sold. They loved Raglan and wanted a memento of the place for their home in Australia.
Double wave
This painting is one of my favorites, and I have been asked to create similar pieces of different sizes as commissions.
big wave
Upon seeing some of my smaller waves, the client requested a large painting of a big wave to be featured in their home.
kahurangi Estate
A vineyard owner I knew well wanted a painting that captured the essence of the vines and natural surroundings.
San Marco coffee
Part of a set of paintings for the San Marco restaurant in Auckland. This one was to set the scene of Italian Coffee culture.
Raglan Rest Home
This client had established a rest home in Raglan and wanted a memory and the feeling of Raglan. Recreated from many photos with different perspectives.
Four Square Raglan
The client requested my assistance in capturing the essence of his newly constructed Four Square Raglan. This involved utilising a drone to acquire the perfect angle and a vivid imagination to encapsulate the essence of Raglan.
