Youmans Studio is excited to present The Wind and Sails Exhibition from the 10th of July to the 25th of July 2021.
The Wind and Sails Exhibition will start with an exclusive Exhibition Opening on the 10th of July, from 4pm – 6pm. We would like to invite the Raglan community and all people interested in the power of the wind and the technology of sailing to our opening event.
The idea of harnessing the wind’s power to move by using a sail has played a big role in the world’s history. Many cultures all over the world have sailed, traded, pirated, and raced using sailing boats. Aotearoa’s history in particular has been deeply affected by sailing technology. 2021 has been a special year for sailing in Aotearoa with the America’s Cup Yacht race being hosted in Auckland earlier this year and Team New Zealand winning the race series. To celebrate this we will exhibit a collection of sailing related paintings by artist Rick Youmans.
Rick Youmans is a passionate artist, and also a passionate sailor. He started sailing in windy Wellington at 5 years old and has been on the water since then. He is currently based at the Raglan Wharf and sails in the Whaingaroa harbour whenever he has the opportunity. Many of Rick’s artworks are influenced by his relationship with the ocean.
